Thirty-five incoming Washburn University students received the $1,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. This one-time scholarship is available for transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for two-year colleges.

Washburn Students Awarded Garvey Scholarship
Incoming Washburn University students have been awarded the Garvey Scholarship for the fall 2019 semester. The Garvey Scholarship is a renewable scholarship worth up to $2000, awarded to students with the highest scores on the Garvey Competitive Exam. The exam is offered several times a year at Washburn University. High school seniors with a GPA of 3.25 or higher, who have previously applied for admittance to Washburn, qualify to take the exam.

Washburn University is pleased to announce the students in its spring 2019 graduating class. More than 700 students completed their courses for associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees. Students Volunteer at WIFI Film Festival
Several Washburn University students volunteered their time and talents at the inaugural WIFI Film Festival in April 2019. More than 90 films were screened at the festival, in addition to several filmmaker interviews and an opening reception. In August 2018, faculty from Washburn's mass media department created an internal organization called the Washburn International Film Institute, or WIFI for short. WIFI is dedicated to promoting and celebrating film production, stories from the Midwest, and education at Washburn University, in the Topeka community, and in the state of Kansas.

Bods in PR, a student organization for Washburn University public relations majors, welcomes new members every year. Public relations students are part of the mass media department at Washburn. As part of the organization's activities, the members of Bods in PR help plan, manage and execute the annual Mass Media Keynote Speaker Event. The 2019 Keynote Speaker Event included more than 120 attendees, student awards and an after-hours networking opportunity for students and alumni.

Jaycie Collins Named Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year
Jaycie Collins was named the 2018-2019 Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year at Washburn University. Collins works at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) as the intramural program assistant, the highest student employment role at the SRWC. "Jaycie is a shining example of the positive impact quality student employment experiences can have," Whitney Slater, director of the SRWC, said. "She has grown exponentially during her tenure at the SRWC, both personally and professionally. She takes her responsibilities seriously while conducting herself in a very approachable manner."

Kasey Paez Presents at 2019 Apeiron Showcase
Kasey Paez presented at the 2019 Apeiron Showcase at Washburn University. Paez's presentation, titled "Trauma and Conflict Resolution in Colombia," discussed her experience studying abroad in Colombia. Washburn University Students Recognized at Kansas Society of Radiologic Technologists Annual Convention
Washburn University students were recognized for their work at the Kansas Society of Radiologic Technologists' Annual Convention in March. The convention took place in Wichita to bring together radiologic technologists and medical imaging professionals in Kansas for education and development. Along with competitions, there were workshops, vendors and speakers. The Kansas Society of Radiologic Technologists is the professional society for radiologic technologists and medical imaging professionals in Kansas. They are an affliate society of the ASRT and serve to advocate for the medical imaging professionals in health policy, education, and advancing modalities.
